Meet Katherine Chipps
Katherine and Jason at the covered bridge in Canal Winchester.
Katherine Chipps grew up in Toledo, Ohio. She moved to Central Ohio in 2002 where she finished her degree at Ohio Dominican University and graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s in Business Management.
Katherine began her career in television production, as a production assistant, newscast director, and graphic artist. Later, realizing that she wanted to help others and make a difference, she changed career paths to focus on public service. She served as an Aide in the Ohio Senate before being appointed as the Regional Services Director at the Ohio Secretary of State's office. She was one of the key leaders in the office that worked to ensure the 2008 Election went smoothly after the problems experienced in 2004, served on the management team that conducted a study on electronic voting machines, and wrote the first drafts of what would become the state’s first post election audit directive. Later she became the Policy & Communications Director for Clean Fuels Ohio, where she was able to get legislation passed expanding the definition of alternative fuels, which at the time was only defined as hydrogen, helped prepare the state of Ohio for the release of electric vehicles to the consumer market, and worked with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) to change the regulation banning re-selling electricity to allow charging station owners to charge a fee to consumers.
In 2012, she co-founded Grassroots Strategies. The business quickly grew and became a large media relations, design, printing, mail house, screen printing, and embroidery company serving Central Ohio. Currently, works for the Franklin County Probate Court as the Lead Deputy Clerk and is a contracted real estate appraiser for the Franklin County Sheriff's office.
Katherine joined the Madison Township Citizens Advisory Committee in 2019, and was elected Chair. Her work with the township on that committee led her to run for Trustee in 2021, where she won her first term in office. As Trustee, Katherine has focused on public safety, better communication with the residents, and making sure the township’s First Responders have the needed tools and equipment to keep themselves and the community safe. Under Katherine’s leadership the township installed flock cameras, purchased the township’s first quint fire engine (a combination of a ladder truck and fire engine), upgraded the police departments body worn cameras and radio equipment, and signed a contract with a psychologist that specializes in working with first responders to provide ongoing mental health care to both the fire and police departments among many other accomplishments. In 2023, she took part in Fire Ops 101 offered by the Ohio Fire Academy, so she could experience first hand what our fire fighters face each day.
Katherine moved to Madison Township in 2012. She purchased her first home in Blacklick Estates and currently resides in Canal Winchester with her boyfriend, Jason. You can frequently see them and their rescue dogs; JoJo, Ted, and Sawyer, enjoying the path along Groveport Road, or at Walnut Creek Park.
